About THE EVENT

We've been running since 1997

Tibshelf Open Gardens was started in 1997 by the Churchwarden of St John’s, Gordon Murfin. Himself an avid gardener, he collected a group of likeminded gardeners from the congregation and organised a day of open gardens. It was also a church fundraiser and was held every other year because in the intervening years the church held a Flower Festival.

There has been a church here in Tibshelf for well over a thousand years and during that time it has been used by thousands of people for christenings, marriages and funerals as well as celebrating important events. In modern times it is not just used by and for religious people. It is now used as a meeting place for local groups and societies and also as an excellent exhibition venue.

It costs a lot of money to keep such a community asset operational and that’s why Tibshelf Open Gardens Day is now held. 100% of all money raised goes into keeping the church open and in a state of good repair so it can be enjoyed by everyone.

By visiting Tibshelf Open Gardens you are helping this cause and we are all very grateful for your support.
